Re-Shooting: Day 4

At the weekend me and Sarah Biswell decided to re-shoot some of the scenes from the beginning of our music video. In some of the shots the acting was not so good or their were peoples feets or faces in the shots, so we decided it would be best to do it again. Additionally, we wanted our music video to have a fast pace and have short snappy shots, which the hallway scenes did not have, so we decided to do some more filming so we could add them in.
Since we had some time left at the end, we also filmed the scenes where Ellie is burning the photograph of her and Harry at Eynsford Castle. HOWEVER, we had a huge issue with this, as when we arrived at the location, it was closed down due to Health and Safety Reasons. We decided we would have to film somehwere else which has a similar type of style to Eynsford Castle- so we decided on some woodland behind Sarah Biswells house.

HEXTABLE & SUTTON-AT-HONE

OVERCOMING PROBLEMS

Here is the new location at Sutton-At-Hone, which some woodland area behind Sarahs house. Here we did the scenes where Ellie is burning the photograph. As there were health and safety issues, we bought a large bottle of water with us so that is something was to go wrong then we could put it out easily. We also made sure we had a fully charged phone with us, incase of an accident.

Another issue we had was that Sarah Brushett could not attend the filming, therefore we did not have the coat which is essential for the scenes. We had to find out the location of the house she was at using AA route planner and then had to drive there to collect it. This put back our scedule for a little way, but we soon overcame the problem.

RE-FILMING
The main thing we had to focus on when re-shooting was ensuring that the mise-en-scene was exactly the same as last time. We did not have any of the alcahol bottles so we had to film in angles and positions that did not give this away. Secondly, the bedding was a different colour, so we had to change this also.

We also had to make sure that Ellie looked exactly the same as last time. The only issue we had with this, was ensuring that her makeup looked the same, because it is a main feature of this scene. So we looked up our first clips and then tried to re-create them.

Once we had done all this, we had to re-shoot the scenes. We tried a variety of angles and postions to gaurentee a more interesting and better music video. With these clips we had some problems with lighting, but we overcame these by covering the lights with coats and sheets.

Filming: Day 3

For our third stage of filming we did the scenes which involved both our protagonist female, Ellie and our protagonist male, Harry. These scenes were at Sarah Brushetts house, which we have fimed at before- so we continued on with the scenes we were filming last time which went inside the house and we also did the flashback scenes which were insdide and outside the house. We finish school at 2 on a Wednesday so we arranged to meet Harry outside our school at that time, and then I drove us all to Sarah's house. As we were on a limited amount of time, because Harry had work at half 4.

SCEDULE
Here is the scedule Sarah Biswell made to ensure that our filming ran smoothly and without fault.

FILMING
LOCATION
SARAH BRUSHETTS HOUSE

Here we are positing the lights so that when we film the picture is more bright and therefore clear so we can see the actors more clearly.

The actors messing around and having a break and then them getting into character so we could start filming.

Here we are trying a vareity of different angles and ideas to make our music video more interesting and affective.

The last bit of filming we did involved being outside again. Once again we tried different angles and positions of the camera.

Problems Encountered:
We did encounter a few problems whilst doing this set of filming- here are a few:
1) Low Battery: The camera only had under 2 hours of filming time left, so we had to make sure we got the footage we needed first or second time. However, for the last 10 minutes the battery run out, so we had to charge that and put everything else away as we also needed to get Harry to work. This worked well and we got the last clip done which was outside.

2) Limited amount of time: As I said we needed to get Harry to work, so we had to make sure we got everything done pretty quickly. We nearly run out of time at the end, however, Sarahs scedule ensured that we were organised and got everything done.

3) No Charlotte: Charlotte who is in our team, stared in the video at the end, however, she had Performing Arts we had to changed who we were going to use. Sarah Brushett was happy to nominate herself and start in the last section of the film, so this problem was dealt with.

Construction of Digipack: Front Cover

Front Cover
To incorporate all of my groups ideas together, I asked Charlotte if she would like to edit the photo again and make the digipack, as me and Sarah Biswell were editing the film. Charlotte decided to edit the photo on the photoshop so it would look much more acceptable and eyecatching for the front cover of our digipack. Here is the different processes she went through to achieve the image we did:

We wanted the image to be much more attractive to the eye, we Charlotte brigtened the image so it was much more eyecatching. She then selected the eyes and the lips and made them brighter which then added excitement and colour to it.

The next step we took was adding text to it on the programme InDesign, as this is something that is seen on all digipacks- we decided to go for her name "Elle" and then the name of the song underneath which is "Ignorance." Charlotte found the text that we felt best suited our font reasearch and then placed it in the best place and then experimented with the colours. She picked colours that linked with the photograph such as blue and red- which come from the eyes and the lips. Here are some of the different looks she came up with:

We decided that the black font would be the best for the word "Elle" , as it stands out the most, but also links to the image- as there is a black dress and bits of black shadow around her hair. For the word "Ignorance" we didn't want to go with black again, so we went for the red, because the lips are one of the main colours that stand out in the image, so we thought it would link, would look more appealing and still be easy to see.

The next stage we had to do was to make the image into a square, as at that moment in time it was a rectangle and therefore was not the correct dimension for a digipack. We retrieved an album and measured it so we could get the correct measurments for ours and then we cropped the image. Even though we had to crop some of her hair out, we noticed that some real digipacks do this. The side of the image we had to crop was the side of the writing, therefore we had to move it to the other side, which we decided was just as affective as it being on the other side.

Here is the final design we came up with:

Final Fonts for Ancillary Tasks

Once we started to create our ancillary tasks, we looked at some more fonts on photoshop and then experimented with them. We focused around the fonts we researched originally and then looked on photoshop to see what fonts match that the best.
We decided on a style like this, because its quite rocky and eccentric which is what our artist is like. They also look like they've been handwritten which is something we were considering having.

After careful consideration we found the font we were looking for- it had a similar style, but was much nicer and fit what we were looking for.
Viner Hand ITC

We made this the colour black, because this needed to be one of the first things you see, as well as linking to the image.

The next font we needed was for the name of the album. We wanted something that was still quite similiar, that was thin and looked like it had been written or typed. It needed to be clear, so we also picked something that was quite simple.

ConcursoModerne BTN lt

We wanted this the colour red, as it linked with the image on the digipak- the colour red was the most prominent from the colour of her lips.

Editing Digipack Cover

After carefully looking at the research I have done, I picked out the photo that I thought would be most appropriate for the front cover of our digipack. As basically all the front covers I looked at had a close up shot of the singer on the front, it immediately meant I could narrow it down some of the photos I had. Furthermore, the type of image our video portrays is quite moody and rebellious, therefore I had something else to narrow it down to. After carefully considering the position of the photo and what the photo portrays here is the image I came down to:

As the photo is not completely perfect, I decided I should edit it on photoshop to create the clear and perfect image, that all the photos have on front of the digipack or on any form of media product. Some of the issues with this image is that the lipstick is smudged, the image is quite dull and there are some skin imperfections. Using photoshop, here is the process I went through to create a better image:

Here is the final image I have come up with. It may not be the final image, but it will be the type of idea we will be going for, for our final digi-pack.

Ancillary Task: First Photoshoot

Here are some of the shots that we came up with. We experimented with different outfits, positions of the body, camera angles and lighting. Some of them were successful and some of them were not such as the lighting ones.

Ancillary Task: Carrying out our Photoshoot

For our digipack, me and Sarah decided to do a photoshoot to get a variety of different possibilities for what we may use. I picked up our actor and model Ellie so I could pick out some different outfits for the shoot, whilst Sarah set up her bedroom, which was where we took the photos. I picked out outfits that fit with the genre we have which is indie rock and then narrowed it down to ones which would look best and would also look quite interesting. When we arrived at Sarahs house, she had used a large white sheet provided by the school and placed it over her large wardrobe, which created the backdrop for our photos, we then set up the appropriate lighting we needed. The camera we used was provided by Sarahs Dad, and is a large proffesional one, which we have used before as it creates a clear and bold looking photo. Throughout the shoot, we tested all the outfits, experimented with lighting and also positions.

Here I am placing a huge white sheet provided by the school over Sarahs wardrobe, so that we could have a plain white backdrop for our photographgs. We struggled to keep it up, but eventually we used large books to keep it there.

Next, we had to set up all the lighting in the correct place to ensure that the photographs were bright and clear. Above is me and Sarah setting them up.

For the actual photographs we used Sarahs Dads camera which is a canon EOS 7D camera with a large flash. This camera ensured we got the most proffesional and clear looking photos possible.

Whilst taking these photographs we experimented with the lighting to try and add some vareity to our images. However, these attempts were quite unsuccessful so we ended up just using the lighting normally and using the flash on Sarahs camera.

Lastly, we used a variety of different resources from Sarahs room to try and create some effect. Our main resource was our hairdryer which backed Ellies hair off of her face and added some excitment to the images. By using the hairdryer we created our favourite image, which we will most probaly used for the front cover of our digipack.

Ancillary Task: Font Research

The type of font we want, is something that potrays our singers personality. From this we decided we want a font that is quite crazy, but not over the top, and gives the feeling of being "rough round the edges." Once again we can look at Kesha and Rihanna for this who both have this type of font throughout their advertising products.

As you can see in both of these album covers, the font they use gives the impression of their personality. They are both quite crazy and rebellious people, which is why these fonts are perfect to be used on their products. Furthermore, these fonts are used at some point of all the advertising for these artists, which helps distinguish who they are- which is why we will do the same.

IDEAS FOR OURS
Charlotte has found a few fonts from the website "da font"- which she feels will be the most affective for our magazine advert and our digipack. They all follow the idea of being a bit rough and portraying rebellion and wildness.

From my research I noticed that the font that is seen on the digipak is usually always seen one the magazine advert too. For example, for Jessie J's album the font used is exactly the same (see below)- this means that the audience can make an association between the two products.
